Robert Lee (Bob) Oliver, 66, of Abilene, passed away on June 28, 2013 after a three year battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Chuck Reynolds of Grace Baptist of Potosi officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Albany Cemetery in Albany, Texas.
Bob was born in Olney, Texas to William and Faye Oliver on June 17, 1947. He attend Albany public school in Albany, Texas, where he was on the 1961 Undeafeated State Champion team as a freshman. Bob attended Abilene Christian College on football scholarships. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 1969. Bob played for two seasons with the Browns before returning to Abilene. He worked in the finance business and automobile industry for many years. Bob returned to ACU, received his second bachelor’s degree in 1999, and taught at Cooper High School. He recently worked as a tool man for JV Industrial based out of LaPorte, TX.
Bob was very active in sports all his life. He was a member of the Pope & Young Club and had been an official measurer for the record book since 1977. He was a lifetime member of the Texas Trophy Hunter's Association, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Bob was a former member of USA Water Ski Association and through the years taught many people to ski and wakeboard.
Bob married Holly Ryder on May 8, 2004. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Potosi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Faye Oliver, and sister Billie F. Boling.
Bob is survived by his wife Holly, stepson Russell Low of Corpus Christi and stepdaughter Rachel Low Sudberry of Abilene, a sister Francene Intille and husband Joe of Florida, three granddaughters, Rylie, Trenady, and Katelynn, and many nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be nephews Wesley Boling, Gerald Stark, Craig Kerr, Robert Michael Kerr, Garrett Boling, and stepson Russell Low. Honorary pallbearers will be Dickie Shelton, Ellis Hise, Wayne Dearing, Al Braune, Bob Carruthers, Larry Brewster, Jesse Upchurch, Don Huff, Lyndon Gathright, and Buddy Pace.

The family of Bob wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Van Diest, Dr. Vega, Hendrick Hospice, and many of the nurses and CNA's of Hendrick for his care while in the hospital. Your caring ways were a great comfort to us all.
