Robert Wayne "Bob" Oetting of Abilene, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the age of 64. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at Southern Hills Church of Christ. Steve Ridgell and Phil Ware will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
September 14, 1942, Bob was born the son of Homer Cris Oetting and Helen Marie (Heerman) Oetting in Marshall, Missouri. He graduated from high school in Sweet Springs, Missouri. December 22, 1968, Bob married Elesa Maddox in Austin, Texas. They moved to Abilene in 1985, along with their son Jason. Bob retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1989 at Dyess Air Force Base. Bob served his country in the United States Air Force for over 22 years. After retiring, Bob worked for Zachary Associates and then as a representative for Nestle Candy Company. He also worked as an Assistant Manager for Sav-On-Office Supply. At the time of Bob's death, he was employed by APTCO Business and Office Supply as an Administrative Assistant. Bob was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
Bob's parents, Homer and Helen Oetting, preceded him in death. Bob is survived by his wife, Elesa Oetting, one son, Jason Oetting and wife, Liz, one daughter, Amanda Oetting, and one grandson, Damian Oetting, all of Abilene. Bob is also survived by one nephew, Neil Maddox; five nieces, Renee and Doyle Garrison, Carmen and Brad Willis, Cindy Maddox, Jaime Maddox, and Kimberly and Shannon Morrow; his father-in-law, O.M. Maddox ; three brothers-in-law, Tom Maddox and his wife Barbara, Eric Maddox, and Glen Maddox and his wife Cindy; his aunt and uncle, Fern and Byrl Neff; cousins, Tim and Susan Neff, Phil and Sharon Neff, Tom and Debbie Deke, along with numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was a very kind, caring person, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many. His quiet, loving nature will be missed.
