Robert Earl "Bob" Mitchell, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2006 in Abilene. A funeral service, with Pastor Johnny Sheffield officiating, will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2006 in Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. There will be a visitation at the Funeral Home from 4:30 until 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22.
Bob was born October 23, 1935 in San Antonio, Texas to Earl Latin and Lela Jane Lyon Snapp. He graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended Texas Lutheran College before joining the U.S. Army. After his army service, he worked for over 7 years in Viet Nam as a Technical Advisor for Bell Helicopter. Bob moved to Abilene in 1974 and established Abilene Power-Vac in 1982, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. He was an active member in Friendship Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Lonnie Irvin Daylight Lodge 1309 in San Antonio.
Survivors include: two sons, Bryan William Mitchell of San Antonio and Michael Wayne Mitchell of Abilene; two daughters, D'Neece Mitchell of Castroville, Texas and Lisa Jo and husband Monty Britton of Hawley; a brother, Richard and wife Deedee Snapp of Buffalo Gap; two sisters, Judy Turner of Burnet, Texas and Lela and husband Robert Talley of San Antonio; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
