Robert "Bob" McClure
Robert "Bob" Doggett McClure, 85, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 in a local hospital. Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm. on Monday, November 6 in the First Baptist Church Chapel, with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Bob was born on February 20, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee to Robert Eugene and Blanche (Doggett) McClure. He graduated from Little Rock High School in Arkansas. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, Bob joined the United States Army Air Corp from which he served from 1941 to 1945. While in the Army Air Corp, Bob was cited for Meritorious Service. September 7, 1946, Bob married Juanita Mae Red in Denton, Texas. The couple moved to Abilene in February of 1947. He was co-owner of McClure Furniture Company, with his wife, for sixteen years. Mr. McClure taught English for four years as a second language in the Abilene Independent School District. He was on the original Board of Directors for the West Texas Rehab Center and on the Board of Directors for Adult Literacy. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bible Study Fellowship and was a Prayer Works Volunteer.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife on September 26, 2006; his parents, one son, Robert Lee McClure, one brother and one sister. He is survived by his son Ken Nelson McClure of Austin, Texas and his daughter-in-law, Robin McClure of Huntsville, Texas.
Bob wanted to thank the Good Lord for his wife Nita whom he was married to for 60 years. He lived life to the fullest and the Lord was good to him. He was fortunate to have a Godly Family and now he has gone to join his wife.
