Robert Harry "Bob" Johnson, 89, of Abilene, died Friday, September 9, 2011 at his residence.
Born in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on June 16, 1922, Bob was the son of Mary Harriet (Hancock) and Harry Ivar Johnson. He served in the U.S. Air Force for over 21 years. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, and while serving in the USAF received numerous honors and citations, including The Purple Heart. Bob retired from the USAF on May 1, 1966 with a rank of SMSGT.
He married Wilma Alene Milliorn on June 21, 1956 in Eula, Texas. After his military retirement, Bob was a realtor with Tommy Milliorn Real Estate in Abilene. He was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church.
His parents and two brothers, Bernard A. Johnson and Earl K. Johnson, preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by his wife, Wilma Johnson of Abilene; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia Johnston and Bobby of Abilene, and Danette Sides and Steve of Tuscola; sister, Lucille Edwards of Auburn, Washington; four grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Jacob Clark, Stephanie Sides and Lisa Johnston; seven great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, at Southwest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Sides, Robert Sides, Mike Clark, Jacob Clark, Glen McCloud, Gary Milliorn and J. C. Rose. Bob's golf friends will be honorary pallbearers.
