Robert (Bob) Durl Grant
Robert Durl Grant, 88 years old, of Abilene Texas, passed away at home on March 15th 2024.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, March 18, 2024, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, with Roy Meksch, Pastor of Harvest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial to follow at the Potosi Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Bob was born on October 22, 1935 in Van Alstyne Texas to Floyd and Sina Elisabeth Grant. He enlisted in the US Army and served for 3 years from January 1954 to January 1957. He married Nancy on June 30, 1972, in Durant, Oklahoma and they lived in Garland, Texas. His work included Kraft Foods, Gooch Packing, General Manager for Mr. G’s Burgers, and he retired from the Abilene State School. He found joy in spending quality time with his family, indulging in activities like playing the guitar, harmonica, and singing together. Additionally, he had a competitive spirit when it came to playing dominoes and cards. He also took pleasure in collecting precious treasures and watching westerns. Moreover, he remained a dedicated member of Harvest Baptist Church for over 19 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John T, Charlie, Grady, his sister Gwen, daughter Judi Chamblee, and son-in-law David LeBouef.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, sister, Mary Ruth and her husband, Ronald; daughter, Charlotte Miles and her husband, Howard; daughter, Robin Staggs and her husband, Allen; and daughter, Melissa Greenway; son-in-law Dennis Chamblee; and niece Shannon Anderson; along with 15 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids (+1 due in July), and soon-to-be-born great-great grandson.
Pallbearers will be Robert Vaughan, Michael Vaughan, Timothy Turquette, Andy Miles, Ryan Hutton, and Shane Kirkland.
