Robert B. Brown, 85, peacefully passed away on Christmas Day 2013 in Abilene, Texas.
Rosary will be Sunday December 29th at 7 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Memorial Mass will be held Monday December 30th at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas with Rev. Msgr. Frederick Nawarskas officiating.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, LaVoin Talley Brown of Abilene; his daughters, Kristen Andrews and husband Jim of Midland, Texas, Lauren Brown M.D. and husband Jim Rhodes of Austin, Texas and Tamren Pate M.D. and husband Preston Pate M.D. of Abilene, Texas; and grandchildren Zachary Andrews, Travis Andrews, Samuel Pate, Sarah Pate and Mary Pate.
He was born June 3, 1928 in Salina, Kansas to Benjamin Bernard Brown and Mary Edith Brown. He moved to Sweetwater, Texas at an early age. He graduated from Sweetwater High School and subsequently graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in accounting. He also served in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston during the Korean War. After his service, he began a career in Dallas, Texas. He used his financial background in several endeavors from the insurance industry to country club management and eventually a long career as a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch in Dallas. In semi-retirement, he worked as the accountant for Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas. After retirement, they returned to West Texas and have been members of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Bob loved playing golf and had a huge thrill when he and his family played Pebble Beach on his 50th wedding anniversary. He also enjoyed watching the Fighting Irish as well as his beloved Texas Rangers on TV.
