Robert Miles Beck went peacefully to Heaven on Saturday, January 13th at 1:15pm in Abilene, TX surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 7, 1946 in Austin, TX to Hugh and Helen Beck. He was known as Bobby or Bob to most. He grew up in Abilene, TX where he attended Bonham Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Cooper High School. He loved singing in the choir and made the all-state choir in high school. He also loved theater and was a very talented artist. As a child and young adult, he enjoyed hanging out with his grandmother, Bobo, who ran a boarding house in Austin. In addition, as a child and thru his life as a young father, he would spend time at his family ranch in San Saba. He attended and graduated with a BBA from the University of Texas in Austin and was an avid Longhorns fan. He proudly wore his UT shirts and class ring. After graduation, he moved back to Abilene to work as an accountant for several independent accounting firms. He sang in the church choir where he met the love of his life, Mary Carolyn Williams. They married in May of 1978 and had two beautiful daughters together, Marisa Carolyn and Courtney Jane. After Abilene, they moved to Dallas, Houston and finally settled in Midland, where they raised their daughters. Bob worked as an accountant. Mary was a music/art teacher and led the choir at various churches. Their love of music and musicals continued through both of their lives. Les Misérables was one of his and Mary's favorite musicals. As a young father, Bob was very involved in Midland Community Theater, Summer Mummers, FUMC of Midland, Walk to Emmaus, Meals on Wheels and his daughters' activities. Later, Bob and Mary, attended First Christian Church and Bob spent lots of time at MD Anderson with Mary in 2000 until she passed away. Later in life, Bob attended Stonegate. For the last 20+ years of his time in Midland, he worked for Nedwoc and was the personal accountant for the Cowden family, whom he grew very fond of.
Bob retired in 2021 and moved back to Abilene where he lived at Wesley Court Independent Living. For the last two years, his sister, Toni Burger, was very involved in his life and would help with errands, doctor's appointments and kept him quite busy. He absolutely adored and loved his grandchildren and daughters. He never wasted a minute telling others how proud of them he was, and he always shared their lives and pictures with everyone he knew. His physical health had started to decline over the past year, but his stubbornness never skipped a beat. Bob was a special man with a huge heart and his life journey was one filled with highs, lows, ups and downs. His family hopes he always knew how loved he was.
He was preceded in death by his bride, Mary, his mom, dad, grandparents, and nephew, Zach.
He is survived by his daughter Marisa Johnson (husband John) and grandchildren Kennedy, Jack, Brock of The Colony, TX; his daughter Courtney Abraham (husband Rennie); granddaughter Annie and soon to be granddaughter of Weatherford, TX; his sister Toni Burger (husband Bill) of Abilene, TX, took such great care of him these last two years; his brother Dana (wife Nancy) of Iraan, TX ;and countless nieces and nephews.
