Robert N. (Bob) Allen III received the ultimate healing as he went to live with his Lord and Savior on April 17, 2015 following a brief illness. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Monday, April, 20, 2015 at Highland Church of Christ in Abilene with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. on Sunday, April 19th from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
Bob was born on June 5, 1948 in San Angelo, Texas to Robert N. Allen Jr. and Ruth Allene Brooks Allen. He grew up on the family ranch in Terrell County. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1970 and began his professional career with the West Central Texas Council of Governments. It was at WCTCOG that he met the love of his life and future wife, Janice Fogle. They married on July 24, 1976. He left WCTCOG to join Davis Kinard and Co. where he worked developing a Governmental Accounting division. He left Davis Kinard in 1985 to join Associated Publishing Company serving as CFO and later as President, a position he held for fourteen years. Under his leadership APC grew from 10 employees in 1985 to approximately 100 employees in five offices around the state. Upon his retirement from APC, Bob returned to Davis Kinard and Co. as Senior Manager of Special Projects until his retirement in December 2014.
Bob and Janice were blessed with three sons, Robert Allen IV, Bryson Allen and Christopher Allen. They were later blessed with two precious daughters-in-law, Aundi Allen and Kingslee Allen. After his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family was his greatest joy.
Bob served the Highland Church of Christ as an Elder and Past Chair of the Elders. His recent civic involvement includes being a member of the board and Past Chair of Christian Homes and Family Services of Abilene and East Texas, member of the Board of Directors of Faithworks of Abilene, Member and Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Board and Past Chair of the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council.
His past civic involvement includes serving as a Board Member and Treasurer of the United Way of Abilene, Chair of the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation, Board Member of the National Center for Children’s Literature, Past Charter Organization Representative and Troop Committee Chair for BSA Troop 232, Past President of Key City Kiwanis and Vice Chair and Treasurer of the Association of Directory Publishers, a professional trade association for the independent directory publishing industry.
Bob was selected Kiwanian of the Year, 1980, Abilene Business Women’s Association, “Boss of the Year” in 1995 and Abilene Christian University Distinguished Alumni, 2004.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Ruthie Crowder. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Janice, his sons Rob of Abilene, Bryson and wife, Aundi of Allen, and Christopher and wife, Kingslee of Abilene, brother-in-law, James Crowder and nieces, Michelle Valentine and Renee Crowder.
