Rita Rose Rasco,73, of Abilene, passed away on September 2, 2014.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 5th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Cliff Stewart of First Central Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Rita was born September 3, 1940 in San Angelo,Texas to Wayman Henry and Myrtle (Martin) Rose. She was a 1959 graduate of Abilene High and received a BS degree in Education at McMurry. She taught elementary school for seven years in the Abilene school district. Rita married Joe Wayne Rasco on October 19th, 1959. Together they enjoyed traveling and loved to gamble. Rita had a talent for writing and authored seven books. She was a member of the Abilene Writer's Guild and First Central Presbyterian Church.
Rita is survived by her children, RitaJo Smith, of Abilene, and Randy Rasco and wife Jami of Fort Worth; brother Jim Rose and fiancé Patricia Bannon of Forney; granddaughters Kristi Rose Rodriguez and husband Luke of Abilene, Malley Rose Rasco of Fort Worth and Kayli Lenae Smith of Abilene; great-grandsons Dusty and Landon Rodriguez of Abilene; extended family members Kaye and David Haney, Eddie Wayne and Susie Hight and Pam Hight, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe Rasco, and special friend, Eddie Hight.
Pallbearers will be Bob Boren, Mark Edwards, Jackie Henderson, Steve Lockard, Greg Rinehart, Luke Rodriguez, Gary Smith, Kevin Stone and Ed Williams.
