Riley Winford Crawford, 85, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at an Abilene care center.
Born in Tye, Texas on February 11, 1925, Riley was the son of Tempie Mae (Fredrick) and Lemuel Newt Crawford. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a resident of Abilene most all of his life. Riley worked as a truck driver for both Dowell Chemical and Pride Refining. He was also a farmer and loved woodworking, gardening and his animals.
Riley married Patsy Johnson on December 8, 1990 in Abilene. He was a member of Brook Hollow Christian Church in Abilene.
His parents and four sisters preceded Riley in death.
Riley is survived by his wife, Pat Crawford of Abilene; children, Dee Anna Loftis and husband David of Abilene, and Prentiss Lee Crawford and wife Laurie of Arlington; and stepchildren, Keith Snodgrass of Austin, Kevin Snodgrass of Tuscola and Patti Davis and husband Reid of Abilene. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Paul Whisenhunt and wife Jennifer, Casey Crawford, Kinsey Crawford and wife Melissa, Gracie Davis, Jake Davis and Lily Snodgrass; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, in Tye Cemetery with Rev. David Hargrave officiating directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Moore, Elmo Moore, Jack Moore, David Loftis, Reid Davis and Eugene Moore.
