Richard Kendall Sollivan died in a local medical center on August 18, 2010. Dick, as he was best known, was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 25, 1917 to Eleanor Kendall Sollivan and Raymond Alford Sollivan. At age nine, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA where he attended UCLA majoring in Engineering and Marketing. During World War II he participated in the development and use of combat cameras and related equipment for the Office of Strategic Services and the U. S. Signal Corps. He later joined the Brown-Forman Company and rose to the position of Western Regional Manager of their Import Operations with offices in San Francisco, CA.
It was there that he met and married Jolene West, a Texas girl, in June 1961. At age 50, he took early retirement and the family moved to Midland, Texas where he helped establish Pressure Coring, Inc., an oil industry service company. He retired and moved to Abilene in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and grandson, Steven Carr and by son-in-law, Randal Fitzhugh. He is survived by his wife, Jolene, daughter Gail Carr and her husband Tom, daughter Shari Fitzhugh, three grandsons, Robert Carr of California, David Carr of California and James Carr of Colorado, one granddaughter, Katie Hansen of Abilene. Ten great grandchildren also survive him: Erin, Jennifer, Tyler, Kristen, Ryan, Bryce, Shaynna, Colton, Garrett Carr and Corina Carr O'Byrne.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 27, at the funeral home.
