Richard Floyd McKissick, 80, of Abilene passed peacefully on December 18, 2011 in Abilene.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, December 19, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20th at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid of Pioneer Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow a graveside service at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas on Wednesday, December 21st at 11:00 am.
Richard was born in Wheatland, Texas to William David and Ethel Dora McKissick on May 24, 1931. He attended school in Wheatland and graduated from Duncanville High School. He married Bobbie Jean Starrett on January 19, 1951. He began his career with Sun Oil Company in 1951 and retired after 37 years of service as District Land Manager in Abilene.
Richard served in the Navy from 1954-1958 as an Aviation Machinist Mate at the US Naval Air Station in Dallas, Texas.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (William David McKissick, Jr, Raymond McKissick and Robert McKissick) and his wife Bobbie Jean McKissick.
He is survived by his children Sherron Olson, Pamela Tayloe and husband Steve, Mike McKissick and wife Kat, and Vicki Hollabaugh and husband Sirman, one brother Don McKissick and his wife Deb, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and close companion Bobbie Edwards.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Anton Melnyk and his caring staff at Texas Oncology and to the compassionate staff and nurses on the 4th and 5th floors of Abilene Regional Hospital.
