Richard M. Johnson, 95, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at an Abilene medical center.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal with The Reverend Mary Glover officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Born on March 2, 1915 in Brownwood, Texas, he was the son of Bennie (Uterback) and Victor Johnson. After graduation from high school and two years of college, Richard served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Working in the petroleum industry for many years, Richard was sales manager for Cosden Refinery in Big Spring, Texas for several years, and later worked for Adobe Petroleum Co. in Abilene. He also was in the automobile business for a number of years, and raised Polo Ponies at his ranch in Callahan County.
Richard married Jean Kirk on April 1, 2005 in Abilene. He was a member of Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal in Abilene, and an avid golfer.
His parents, two sisters and two stepbrothers preceded him in death.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jean Johnson of Abilene; stepson, Arnie Kirk and wife Keri of Granbury; stepdaughters, Marisa Doan and husband David of Abilene, and Perri Partridge and husband Steven of Dallas; and goddaughter, Jody Beth Metter of Chicago, Illinois. Survivors also include seven step grandchildren, Chris Doan, Andrea Doan, Kyle Kirk, Ryan Rodriguez, Madison Kirk, Eliot Partridge and Emily Partridge; one step great-grandson, Lefabian Williams, III; two nephews and one niece.
