Rhonda Barnes

July 20, 1959 — January 27, 2025

Rhonda Sue Barnes peacefully passed away and met her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. Rhonda embodied so many fruits of the Spirit that she so graciously shared with everyone. She was humble, selfless and funny always carrying a smile on her face. She spread joy, laughter and love gracefully. She was everything a son and daughter could ask for, always willing to provide a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on and a nudge to push you in the right direction. Her love for her husband was obvious and evident everyday. Her grandchildren adored her because of her peaceful presence and the warm love she always had to give. Her strength came from her relationship with Jesus and she would want everyone to know that He offers the same grace that she received to anyone that asks.

Rhonda was born July 20, 1959 in Big Spring, Texas to Ronald and Mary Gilbreath. She was raised in Stanton, Texas where she met her Husband of 46 years, Gary, while they were in grade school. They moved to Arlington, Texas in their early marriage and returned to Stanton before eventually moving to Odessa to raise their children, Josh and Krista. While in Odessa they were active members at 6th and Jackson Church of Christ. She loyally worked in the Trust Department at a local bank and most importantly created a warm and loving home for her family to thrive in. After Gary’s retirement they moved to Abilene, enjoyed traveling with family and friends and became active members at Remington Ridge Church of Christ. Rhonda and Gary were always present for family events, family vacations and loved their family and others well.

Rhonda is preceded in death by her father, Ronald Gilbreath and her brother, Ricky Gilbreath. She is survived by her mother, Mary Gilbreath, her husband, Gary Barnes, her son, Josh Barnes and his wife Emily Barnes and their three children, Claire, Caroline and Henry, her daughter Krista Owens and her husband Jarrett Owens and their two children Rayleigh and Jameson.

The family is so thankful for the support they have received through the recent months. The Church at work is a beautiful thing and Rhonda felt the presence of God through the generosity and presence of so many.

Life at its fullest is experienced when we understand that this is not our home. We are made to be in the presence of God and that is available to anyone that believes in the resurrecting power of his Son, Jesus. Rhonda and her family want to make certain that everyone knows the pathway to salvation, they invite you to reach out to them so they can share this good news!
