Rev. Donny Harbers, 59, of Abilene passed away Friday, November 4, 2016. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Wylie Baptist Church with Brother Steve Peace and Russ Ponder officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Sunday at Wylie Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Donny was born March 27, 1957 in Yoakum, Texas to Finley and Dorothea "Dot" (Witte) Harbers. He married Sheila Cooper in Victoria, Texas on June 18, 1976.
Donny began his fulltime ministry in music and youth at the First Baptist Church in Rotan. He was then Pastor at Weinert Baptist, followed by Potosi Baptist Church. Donny was then Associate and Administrative Pastor at First Baptist Church in Marble Falls before becoming Pastor at First Baptist Church in Hamlin. Donny joined the ministry team at Wylie Baptist Church as Senior Pastor on November 1, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Benny Harbers and Jimmy Harbers, as well as his twin sister, Debra Kay Harbers.
Donny is survived by his wife, Sheila Harbers of Abilene; three children, Dustin Harbers and wife Melissa, Lanona Brown and husband Randy, and Kayla Harbers, all of Abilene; four grandchildren, Ashton Brown, Holden Brown, Jaelyn Brown and Lawson Brown; four sisters, Marian Otto of Victoria, Cheryl Harbers of Yoakum, Janice Burney and husband Mike of Paris, Tennessee, and Margie Baker and husband Mark of Yoakum, as well as several nieces, nephews, and numerous family members.
Active pallbearers will be members of the search committee that brought Donny to Wylie Baptist Church: Mike Farmer, Ken Hogan, Cameron Moore, Anthony Miculka, Monroe Levrets, Gary Throckmorton and Mike Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Wylie Baptist Church.
