Retha Penman, 88, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road with Rev. Rowland Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Retha was born March 22, 1918 in McQueen, Oklahoma to John Henry and Sarah Melvina Herrington Little. She moved to Abilene in 1920. Retha married Howard "Penney" Penman, who served in the military, and the couple lived in many different places during his service. Retha was a civil service employee during this time and worked where her husband was stationed, although she always called Abilene her home. She retired from civil service at Dyess Air Force Base. Retha was a member of University Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, and seven sisters. She is survived by a niece, Linda Bratton and her husband, Conrad of Abilene as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
