Rebecca Cody, 92, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2007 at her residence in Dallas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 26 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.
December 3, 1914, Rebecca was born to John Edwin Scott, Jr. and Ora Mae (Simmons) Scott, of the Denton Valley Community, in Callahan County. She married Carl Cody, of Denton Valley, in 1935 and the couple moved to California. In 1948, Rebecca and Carl returned to Premont, Texas to live and raise their family. They retired and moved to Abilene in 1972. They were active members of Fair Park United Methodist Church in Abilene. Rebecca was a member and past Noble Grand of Abilene Rebekah Lodge #89. After Carl's passing in 1986, Rebecca resided in Abilene until moving to Dallas in 1992, where she lived until her death. She was a member of Ridgeway Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.
Rebecca was preceded by her parents and her husband, Carl in 1986. She is survived by three daughters, Judith Colquitt of Radford, Virginia, Carlene Cody of Dallas, Texas and Penny Cody of Littleton, Colorado; one brother, Dale Scott of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Jamie Turner and Sue Blair, both of Denton Valley; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
