Raymond William “Ray” Courville, 68, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at a medical center in Abilene, Texas.
The son of Cecile (Desany) and John Courville, Ray was born on March 16, 1945 in Burlington, Vermont, and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, VT in 1964.
From 1972 to 1992, Ray served in the U. S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of Tech Sgt. Since 1987, he had lived in Abilene, Texas, where he graduated from McMurry University in 1997. After retiring from the USAF, Ray had been employed since 1998 as an Administrative Clerk at the Middleton Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene.
Ray married Betty Fraser on July 4, 1970 in Garland, TX. She preceded him in death in 1976. On January 19, 1979, Ray married Vickie Watson in Fort Worth, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Marcell, Earnest, Paul, Johnny and Louis Courville; and sister, Mary Bouffard.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Courville of Abilene; three sons and spouses, Raymond Courville and Susan of Abilene, Christopher Courville and Gyvonne of Waco, and Jason Harguess and Helen of Abilene; two daughters, Lorraine Walston and husband Taylor of Murfreesboro, TN, and Angela Harguess of Belpre, Ohio; two brothers, George Courville and Joseph Courville and wife Sandy, all of Burlington, VT; three sisters, Lorraine Vartuli and husband Dominic, and Theresa Gallinari and husband Hank, all of Fishkill, NY, Jeanne Creel of Garland, TX; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 12 noon on Friday, July 19, at Baker Heights Church of Christ, 5382 Texas Ave. in Abilene. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the funeral home.
