Raymond Altum, 82, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in Abilene.
The son of Etta Frances (Smith) and Samuel Leroy Altum, he was born on October 10, 1929 in May, Texas in Brown County, where he graduated from May High School in 1947. He proudly served in the U. S. Air Force.
Raymond worked in oilfield equipment repair for Republic Supply, Bethlehem Steel, B-T Oilfield Supplies, and ultimately VJ Oil Company. Since 1955, he had been a resident of Abilene, where he was a longtime member of Broadview Baptist Church, having served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher in the adult department.
On February 29, 2012, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Altum, whom he married on November 2, 1962 in Abilene. He was also predeceased by his parents and one sister, Aline Kelly, in 1981.
Raymond is survived by one niece, Debra Froh and husband Richard of Abilene, and two great-nieces, LuCretia and Julie.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Broadview Baptist Church with Rev. David Cason officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
