Raul C. Serbin, 86, died, Monday, February 13, 2012, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Wilson County, Texas on September 29, 1925, Raul was the son of Narcissa (Cantu) and Eduardo Servin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served from 1944 to 1947. He attained the rank of sergeant. In 1960, he moved from Sinton, Texas to Abilene. Raul was a truck driver with the C.B. handle "Slow Poke". He worked for Mobil Oil, Paul Carroll Trucking, Pride Refining and Western Marketing.
He loved playing the guitar and singing, as well as playing golf. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan.
Raul married Julia Carronza on October 15, 1949 in Helena, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2002. His parents; three brothers, Pedro, Reuben and Edward; two sisters, Marcella and Maria; and stepmother, Elena Servin, preceded him in death.
Raul is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Martinez of Abilene, and Sylvia Stevens (Gary) of Hamby; three sons, Albert Servin (Stella) and Raul Servin (Amanda) all of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Robert Serbin of Abilene; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Bertha Jaramillo (Victor) of San Antonio, and Josephina Williams (Doug) of Denver, Colorado; a brother, Juan Servin (Juanita) of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Brother Weldon Gann officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Serbin, David Serbin, Michael Martinez, Nathan Elders, J. R. Ford and Nick Conway. Tony Hale will be an honorary pallbearer.
Since his wife died ten years ago, Raul had breakfast most mornings at The Dixie Pig. The family would like to thank his breakfast friends and the waitstaff for the kindness they showed Raul over the years.
