Eddie Randall (Randy) Springer passed away on November 12, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. Randy was born in Merkel, Texas to Molly (McLeod) and Bill Springer on the 10th of March, 1948. He attended schools in Abilene and graduated from McMurry University in 1974 with a degree in Finance. Randy married his love Susan Warren in 1966 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene. They had a son, Brent, in 1967. Randy served his country in the Vietnam War for two years in the United States Naval Reserve.
After the war, Randy began a career in the oil business, working for Springer Drilling Company. He later sold drilling fluids, and was the Shop Supervisor for E.C. Tool & Supply in Abilene. He and his wife Susan also spent time appraising equipment for the F.D.I.C. throughout Texas, though his greatest enjoyment was working as an Oil Operator when time allowed. He was a Member of the Abilene Geological Society and the Texas Farm Bureau.
Randy was raised in the Church of Christ, and remained a devoted Christian throughout his life. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Mac Springer, his sister Shirley Ann Springer, and his niece Cathy Leavell. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son Brent, his sister Colette Goode (Sonny Goode), sister-in-law Norma Springer, and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, on Wednesday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Bill Libby, Chaplain, US Army (Ret.). Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Berry, Carlton Lundgren, Buddy Meyer, Ron (Skitch) Rougeux, Roger Sivley, and Jon Yarborough.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Anton Melnyk and the staff of Texas Oncology and the Abilene Regional Medical Center nursing staff for their kind and compassionate care.
