Travis “Randy” Polk of Abilene Texas passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday October 28, 2013 at The Hamil Family, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd; Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 202 Butternut St. with David Black officiating. A private burial will follow. Guests are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts in honor of Randy’s contagious joy. Randy Polk was born in Lubbock, Texas to Travis and Carolynn on November 15, 1959. He went to school at Garden City High School in Garden City, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Master’s of Business Administration. He married his best friend, Marla Kane Polk, on July 6th, 1986 in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a 3M sales representative in Topeka, Kansas from 1985 to 1989. He proudly served as Captain of the United States Air Force in the Medical Service Corps until 1994. In 1990, Randy and his wife Marla started Polk Enterprises where they had the privilege of employing many wonderful people who became lifelong friends at Check & Cash. In 2007, Randy transitioned into real estate management. Randy then became an artist and photographer, making his goal and his purpose behind every piece to communicate the love our God has for us. His grandparents TC and Pearl Polk, Marvin and Jimmie Hudman, and his Uncle Bill McGrew preceded Randy in death. Randy is survived by his spouse Marla Kane Polk; his two sons Justin and Wesley Polk; his sister Shelley Polk Brown and her husband Barry; his sister Susan Polk Soukup and her husband John; his parents Travis and Carolynn Polk; his Aunt Norma McGrew; his brother-in-law Neil Kane and his wife Amy; his brother-in-law Geoff Kane and his wife Nannette; his parents-in-law Bonnie and Dave Ramis and Larry and Fern Kane; many more beloved aunts and uncles and cousins; fourteen special nieces and nephews; and cherished friends too many to count. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Palm House, a neighborhood outreach ministry that Randy dedicated many hours consisting of everything from maintenance to encouragement. He had more hobbies, awards, certificates, and recognitions than can be listed. He consistently gave his all of his time and resources to those around him, and he exemplified the love of God and lived his life for his glory. His greatest accomplishment and the thing he enjoyed most in his life was spending time with his family.
