Rae Giles

Rae Giles, 80, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Abilene Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with a rosary to begin at 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiated by Father Robert Bush. The committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 29, in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Rae Giles was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Willie R Jiles and Maggie J. Jiles on December 5, 1935. He attended school in Fort Worth and graduated from I.M. Terrell High School. He married Ola Mae Moss on August 20, 1955 in Dallas, Texas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam. He served from June 8, 1954 to July 31, 1977 and was an aircraft mechanic, receiving numerous medals during his career. He also worked with motorcycle restoration for Kent’s Harley-Davidson for 26 years. Rae was preceded in death by his son, Wane Giles; his parents, Willie and Maggie Jiles; and a sister, Elva J. Jiles. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ola Giles; children, Anthony Rae Giles, Angela Edmond, Andrea Darline Giles and Alicia Marie Giles (Lee Maden); six grandchildren, Chris Edmond, Eric Edmond, Harry Washington, Jannise Washington, Jacquez Arterberry and Jamari Giles; and 17 great-grandchildren, Kiara, Kesean, Trinity, Kahlil, Zhane, Sade, Takeshai, Michael, Nautica, Jax, Cali, EJ, Charisse, CJ, Crystal, Ebony and Elisa. Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Giles, Eric Edmond, Chris Edmond, Jacquez Arterberry, Harry Washington and Jamari Giles. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hendrick Medical Center; Dr. Templeton, Dr. Reed, Dr. Bement, and Optometrist, Dr. Troy Carter; Hospice nurses, Darlene, Maggie, Shelly, Debbie and Marla; and nurse assistants, Christy, Hanna, Nurse Promise, and Bubbles (Elva), as well as the sweet nurses and staff that cared for Rae, friends from Kent’s, and other supportive friends and neighbors.
