R. L. Perkins, 90, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, prior to the funeral service at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Born in Olney, Texas on December 18, 1924, R. L. was the son of Robert Leslie and Minnie Lee Perkins. He married Faye Burkett in Newcastle, Texas. They had been married for 62 years.
R. L. served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. He worked in the petroleum industry for Republic Supply Co. as a sales representative and Bradley Producing Co. as a pumper. He was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and Bible Survey Sunday School Class at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Ada Perkins; four brothers; and five sisters.
R. L. is survived by his wife, Faye Perkins of Abilene; three daughters, Leska Christie of Abilene, Patti Henry and husband Danny of Abilene, and Mitzi Jackson and husband Scott of Christoval, Texas. Survivors also include four grandchildren, Robert Vasquez of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Jordan Christie and girlfriend Angie Jaques of Abilene, and Lyndi and Layni Jackson of Christoval, Texas, and great-grandsons, Brandon and Matthew Vasquez of Abilene.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
