R. L. Henderson, 94, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
Born in Howard County, Texas on May 6, 1920, he was the son of Verbena (Long) and Shelby Henderson. He served in the U.S. Navy, and on April 14, 1945, married Lila Reid in Hico, Texas. In 1946 he moved from Big Spring, Texas to Abilene, where he was a farmer and worked 37 years for Lone Star Gas as a pipeline repairman. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Henderson on October 19, 2007; his parents; brothers, Glen Henderson and Doyle “Buddy” Henderson; and one sister, Othel Teague.
R. L. is survived by two sons, Ken Henderson and wife Patricia, and Randy Henderson and wife Linda, all of Abilene; three grandchildren, Scott Henderson and wife Lisa, Ashley Rodgers husband Andy, and Danielle Grant; and great-grandchildren, Mitch Galindo, Taylor Galindo, AnnaKate Rodgers, Avery Rodgers, Anson Rodgers, Antley Rodgers, Emily Henderson, Morgan Henderson and Brady Henderson.
Funeral services will 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the funeral home.
