R. D. Gist

R. D. Gist, 85, died April 22, 2017 in Aransas Pass, Texas at a nursing home. The son of the late Gemie (Donald) and Otha Davis Gist, R. D. was born on December 3, 1931 in Potosi, Texas. He was a graduate of both Eula High School and Hardin-Simmons University. A U.S. Army veteran, R. D. entered military service in 1953, was stationed in Korea, and was Honorably Discharged in 1955. He was a Baptist. R. D. had a career as a steel drafter, estimator and salesman, having worked for Central Texas Iron Works in Abilene, Falcon Steel in Fort Worth, and W & W Steel in Oklahoma City, OK. After his retirement in 1996, he moved to Port Aransas, Texas. He is survived by his sister, Willadean Brock and husband Bill of Sweetwater, Texas; niece, Marsha Ramey; nephews and spouses, Greg Brock and Debbie, Kenneth Brock and Cathy, and Keith Brock and Becky; numerous great-nieces and great nephews; and cousins, R. B. Donald and Gail Curtis. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in Potosi Cemetery with Rev. David Cason officiating.
