Preston C. Porter, of Abilene, died, Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
Born in San Marcos, Texas, Preston was the son of Abigail (Payne) and Edwin Porter. After graduation from high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Preston was a master electrician, and for many years owned Preston Porter Electric in Abilene. At the time of his retirement, he was housing manager at Dyess AFB with Civil Service.
Many of Preston’s friends who knew him well called him a “Prayer Warrior”. He was a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Murlene Chesney Porter in 1999; his parents; and one brother, Frank Porter.
Preston is survived by his wife of twelve years, Sandra McNeill-Porter of Abilene; son, Preston Porter, Jr. of Austin; stepdaughter, Lisa Carney and husband Mike of Grand Prairie; brother, Edwin Porter of San Marcos, sister, Kathleen Theriot of Gueydan, Louisiana; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, September 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 1, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
