Poole Robertson

Poole Robertson, Jr., 87, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at his residence in Abilene. Born in Abilene, Texas on October 26, 1923, Poole was the son of Poole Robertson, Sr. and Evelyne (McDavid) Robertson. He lived in Abilene his entire life with the exception of his college years and time in the military service. He attended Abilene Public Schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1941. He registered at Texas A&M University to begin his college years, but after one semester, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps. After receiving basic training and completing Officer's Training School, he was sent overseas and flew many troop carrier missions over Germany during World War II. After the war he returned to Texas A&M, where he received a BBA degree in 1948. Poole married Ruth Hancock on June 7, 1952 in the First Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas. After a brief stint in Lubbock, the couple moved to Abilene, where their only daughter, Pamela, was born. He began his sales career working for Anderson-Clayton Company in Lubbock. He retired from Gifford-Hill Company in 1988 in Abilene, Texas. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Abilene A&M Club. Poole enjoyed going to Texas A&M football games and traveling in his motorhome. Following retirement, he was able to spend summers in Lake City, Colorado, a small town high in the Rocky Mountains. He loved riding around the jeep trails in the mountains. Poole was predeceased by his parents, Poole, Sr. and Evelyne Robertson. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Pamela Hugghins and her husband Ken of Huntsville; grandson, Kyle of Houston; granddaughter, Kelly of Austin; and brother, David Robertson and wife, Gloria, of Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Dr. Ken Hugghins and Rev. Pam Rowley officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abilene A&M Club, Scholarship Fund, P.O.
