Ponice Jones Fisher, 90, of Abilene went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Hendrick Medical Center Hospice.
The daughter of Addie (Eads) and Henry Strickland, Ponice was born on July 22, 1922 near Tye in Taylor County, Texas. She was a 1939 graduate of Abilene High School and retired as office manager after working for J. D. Magee, MD for over 20 years.
Having been honored with a plaque at the 75th Anniversary of the church, Ponice was the last surviving Charter Member of North Park Baptist Church in Abilene.
Ponice married Glen Jones, and he preceded her in death in 1975. She married Floyd Fisher, and he preceded her in death in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, H.T. Strickland, Jr. and Jearl Strickland; two sisters, Jewell Young and Clydie McBryde; one stepson, Ronald Fisher; and a nephew, Rayford Strickland.
Survivors include one sister, Delora Hutchins and husband Bob of Clyde; a stepson, David Fisher of Long Beach, CA; a stepdaughter, Beverly Yost and husband Pete, of The Colony, TX; nieces and nephews, Darla Johnson and husband Randall, Brent Morris and wife Dede, James McBryde, Wancelle Pritchett, Jerry Strickland and wife Dianne, Randy Strickland and Kim Feemster.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. Louis Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Randall Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Brent Morris and Jerry Strickland.
