Pete Bradley

Pete Bradley, who loved to travel around the world, went on her last and best trip on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, when she went to Heaven.  She died peacefully at Windcrest Medical Center. She was 98.

Graveside services will be at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Elmwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am in the Choir Suite at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Pete graduated from Anson High School in 1937. She worked for Jones County government for a year. In 1938, she married I.L. (Brad) Bradley in 1938.  Brad was one of the original employees with Halliburton Company and served as a District Superintendent. In their Halliburton career, Pete and Brad lived in Stamford, Brownwood, Coleman, Abilene, Anson, Snyder, Cisco, and back to Abilene in 1965.  In each of the towns, they belonged to the First Baptist Church except in Abilene where they were members of Southside Baptist Church in 1951 and Pioneer Baptist Church from 1965 to present. Brad served as a deacon and Pete served doing everything else there was to do at the church. It was quite difficult for others to keep up with her.

After the children were gone, Pete discovered the Abilene Regional Airport. From there she launched her second career of travelling around the world on mission trips telling people the story of Jesus.  Over the years, she travelled to every continent on mission trips but mainly went to Europe and the Far East. On each trip she worked as a missionary and also assisted the missionaries who were permanent residents. Pete’s travels around the world were the highlight of her life. It was a calling she had from an early age and she finally got to fulfill that calling.

Pete’s other love was Pioneer Baptist Church at 701 South Pioneer Drive. She served there for 50 years.  There were few if any programs of the church that she wasn’t involved in.  She was especially partial to the choir and young adult programs.  Pete was a volunteer counsellor to many members of the church especially young married ladies. Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and worldwide mission trips were Pete’s life. She excelled at both.

Pete Bradley was born in Anson, TX on November 24, 1919.  She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Taylor who farmed east of Anson. She was predeceased by brothers Sonny, Jeff, and R.O. Bill Taylor and by sister Mary Dutton and by her parents.

She was also predeceased by husband I.L. Bradley and daughter Ann Bradley.

She is survived by her son, Harry Bradley of Austin and his son D’Marcus and daughter in law Dezhia and their sons, D’Marcus, Jr. and D’Marion.  She is also survived by nephews and nieces Sharon Self, Phil Taylor, and David Taylor, and other relatives from the Taylor, Watts, and Bradley families.
