Peggy Joyce Wheless Darby

Peggy Joyce Wheless Darby went to be with her heavenly father September 17, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services, with Greg Rake officiating, will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20 at funeral home. Burial will follow at Mc Bee Cemetery. Peggy was born March 15, 1936 in Abilene, Texas to Thelma Hawkins Cox and Raymond Lewis. Peggy was reared by her beloved grandmother "Mama", Minerva Ann Hawkins and two unselfish uncles, Lloyd and Luther Hawkins. All three preceded her in death. Peggy attended schools in Abilene, Texas. Peggy married RL Wheless May 27, 1950 and they had six children. A infant daughter, Pamela Faye Wheless preceded her in death. Peggy is survived by four sons, Randell and Ronald Wheless of Allen, Texas, Honorable Ray Wheless and wife Honorable Cyndi Wheless of Lucas, Texas, Tommy Wheless and wife Debbie Wheless of Abilene Texas and a daughter, Joyce Kidwell Nutt and husband Clark Nutt of Abilene, Texas and a daughter in law Shelia Wheless of Allen, Texas. Peggy is also survived by her grandchildren, Peggy Jones and husband Glenn Jones of Sachse Texas, Lee Kidwell of Abilene Texas, Tom Kidwell of Abilene Texas, Scott Wheless of Allen Texas, Chandler Wheless of Allen Texas, Ryan Wheless of Lucas Texas, Dylan Wheless of Lucas Texas, Cody Nutt of Abilene Texas, Thyron Lane, and Mike Lane of Abilene Texas. Other survivors include great grandsons, Steven Sikes, Chris Sikes, Jeff Jones and Shane Jones and a great grandaughter Casey Jones. Other family members that survive Peggy are three special sister in laws, Edna Rippy, Lorene Phillips and Mae Ferguson; neice's Betty Gandy, Ruth Greenwelge and Louise Green. A son in law KK Kidwell and neice Dorothy Farnish preceded her in death. Peggy is also survived by her best friend Linda Roberts Trissel. Pallbearers are Steven Sikes, Chris Sikes, Lee Kidwell, Mike Lane, Glenn Jones and Scott Wheless. Peggy had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
