Peggy Jo Haynie Richmond, 93, died Monday, January 26, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 29, in Bangs Cemetery in Bangs, Texas under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Peggy was born November 21, 1921 to Eugenia and Charles Haynie Sr. of Munday, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Albert Edward Richmond; her brothers, Charles Haynie Jr., Don Haynie, and Gene Roland Haynie; and her sister, Beth McCanlies.
In her early years, Peggy worked as a beautician in her father’s shop in Munday. She married the love of her life, A.E. Richmond in 1945, and they started their long journey in life together. She was the ultimate homemaker, taking care of her husband and children. She loved to sew and read. She finished her teaching degree at Sul Ross University and became an Elementary teacher in Midland, Texas. After A.E.’s retirement, they moved to the ranch in Bangs where they raised Angus and Chianina cattle. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a devout Baptist.
She is survived by a brother, Lloyd Haynie and his wife Dorothy of Houston; a sister, Janie Segars of Fort Worth; her sons, Neil Richmond and wife Karla of Colleyville, Texas, and Jim Richmond and his wife Cindy of Abilene; and a daughter, Mary Underwood and her husband Robert of Midland. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Lexa Richmond, T.Jay Richmond, Reagan Richmond, Gable Clark, Josh Clark and his wife Sharon, Amanda Peters and her husband Kris, Tucker Underwood, Kris Richmond, and Jordan Richmond and his wife Becca; and four great-grandchildren Bo, Lacy, Kaiden and Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Peggy’s name to Disability Resources Incorporated, P.O. Box 1880, Abilene, TX 79604.
