Peggy Hawes, 75, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006 in a local hospital. Viewing and visitation will be on Monday, January 1, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Tuesday, at 10:00 am, a graveside service will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Fane Downs and Jim Wallace will officiate.
July 14, 1931, Peggy was born to Ray Caudill and Petreta (Gray) Caudill in Abilene, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Abilene and graduated from Abilene Christian High School. On February 14, 1947, Peggy married Hugh R. Hawes, Jr. Peggy was a member of the "99's" and a member of the Sewing Club. She was also a member of the Tuesday Lunch Bunch. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hugh, on August 27, 1993, Peggy is survived by a son, Hugh R. Hawes, III of Wharton, Texas; a daughter, Sherrill Adams and her husband Gary of Houston, Texas; a brother, Donald Caudill of Abilene; four grandchildren, Timothy Hawes Stahl, Suzanna Joy Adams, Hugh R. Hawes, IV, and Christopher Hawes. She is also survived by two nieces, Pam Williams and Laura Turner.
JoAnn Peterson, Barbara Sojourner, Hope Wilkins and Inez Floeck will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Hendrick Medical Center, A.W., her nurse in her final days, and to Dr. Allen Schultz.
