Patsy Lilly

August 24, 1933 — January 13, 2025

Patsy Ruth Clark Lilly, 91, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Hendrick Hospice Care Center in Abilene, Texas.

Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, with Brother David Cason officiating. A private family burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.

Pat was born in Abilene, Texas, to Ruth Rhoda Jones Clark and Ellis Lee Clark on August 24, 1933. She was an only child and a daddy’s girl. She attended Travis Elementary, South Junior High, and graduated from Abilene High School in 1951.

She married the love of her life, John Cecil Lilly, on April 23, 1954, at her parents’ home in Abilene. Pat’s grandparents and John’s grandparents had neighboring farms at the base of Castle Peak, south of Merkel, Texas, so they knew each from a young age.

When Pat was a teenager, she went to work at McClellan’s Five and Dime store in downtown Abilene where her mother worked. As a young adult, she was a secretary for Greyhound Bus Lines, Cummings Electric and United Way of Abilene. When her oldest daughter was two, she left clerical work to be a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mother. A couple of years later, she started a 60-year career selling Avon. She was a truly devoted Avon Lady and made many lifelong friends through her passion for Avon.

For many years, Pat was active in the Wiley Home Demonstration Club and the Abilene Business Women’s Association as well as a longtime member of Broadview Baptist Church. She was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys football fan.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents.

Pat is survived by two daughters, Pam Light of Tuscola and Tonya McBrayer of Abilene; two grandchildren, Jarrod Light and wife Brandi of Newport, North Carolina, and Lilly McBrayer of Abilene. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ida Reed of Lawn, Texas, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hendrick Hospice Care Center of Abilene.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Windcrest Nursing Home, Dr. Goel with Hendrick Health, the nursing staff on C6 at Hendrick Medical Center North, and the staff at Hendrick Hospice Care Center. These individuals not only provided excellent and loving care for Pat but also cared for her family.
