Patricia “Pat” Ramey, 80, of Abilene, TX, passed away on May 16, 2015 in Abilene.
Visitation for friends and family will be Tuesday, May 19, from 4 to 7 PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX, followed by a rosary service at 7 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 3 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene, TX with Monsignor Bob Bush officiating. A Funeral Mass will also be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish of Big Spring, TX with Monsignor Bernard Gully officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home of Abilene, TX.
Pat was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence and Marie Smith on June 20th, 1934 along with a twin sister Mary. She went to school at St. Joseph’s Academy, now Dowling, and graduated in 1952. She married John Nelson Ramey on November 20, 1954 in Washington D.C. at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She obtained an Associates’ Degree from Howard College while living in Big Spring. She worked in administrative/secretarial jobs for the United States Government, including the Pentagon, and retired from Civil Service in 1994. She loved her church, Holy Trinity Catholic Parish of Big Spring, TX and was involved in Baptismal Classes, Homebound, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She moved to Abilene in 2011 for health reasons to be near her family.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Marie Smith; husband John Nelson Ramey, sister Mary Marcey; brothers Bill Smith, Jim Smith, and Jack Smith.
Pat is survived by son Bill Ramey of Portsmouth, RI; daughter Pamela Ramey of Abilene, TX; daughter Peggy Faulkner and husband Rodney of Berlin Center, OH; son Michael Ramey of Plano, TX; grandchildren Cody Pennington and wife Danielle of South Carolina, Frankie Pennington and wife Jennifer of Pennsylvania, Robin Ramey of Rhode Island, Lisa Sussman and husband Gary of Florida, Kim Ramey of The Netherlands; three great-grandchildren Frankie Pennington III, Brooklyn Pennington, and Emily Pennington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s or Hospice organization of your choice.
The family of Pat wishes to extend their sincere thanks to David Collins and the staff of Covenant Place, Encompass Home Health, and Integracare Hospice of Abilene for the care and support they provided to their mother while she was in their care.
