Patricia Darlene Malaer

Patricia Darlene Malaer, age 81 of Abilene, Texas lost her battle with Alzheimer’s at home surrounded by her family on June 9, 2018.

Darlene was born on February 15, 1937 in Bloomington, Indiana to James Wendel “Pete” and Virginia Elizabeth Weaver.

Darlene married Marvin Lee Malaer in 1961, she focused on supporting his military career, raising their children, and making sure their family settled comfortably in each new home as they moved from Coleman Texas, to Turner AFB Georgia, to Laredo AFB Texas, to Ramstein AB Germany, to Wurtsmith AFB Michigan, and finally settling in Abilene, Texas.

She worked for Payless Cashways for 15 years, retiring in 1998. 

Darlene was a strong, sharp-witted, independent woman.  She was an avid reader of mystery novels, she loved to travel, dance, and she loved to cook for large family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James Michael Weaver and Dennis Wendel Weaver, and her loving husband of 52 years.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Gail Kowalski, Stacy Alberta Stewart, James Wendel Parsons and wife Kim of Abilene, Texas, Nora Janette Claspill, of Wichita Falls, Claudia Elizabeth Lemon and husband Flint of Pipe Creek, Texas, Glyna Marlene Dickerson and husband Bill of Brentwood, Tennessee, Mara Leigh Chappel of Cibolo, Texas; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and sister Irene Gay Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Love leaves a memory…No one can steal.

Visitation will be 6:00PM to 8:00PM Thursday, June 14, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM Friday, June 15, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene officiated by Rev. Adam Droll.
