Dell Warren, 80, of Abilene, passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Elmwood Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. Rev. Mary Glover and Deacon Jennifer Rowley will officiate. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
February 15, 1928, Dell was born in Sweetwater, Texas to the late Raymond Averitt and Katherine (Stewart) Averitt. She graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1969, Dell moved to Abilene from San Diego, California. She was employed at Crum and Forrester, U.S. Insurance and Gold Key Company. Dell worked as a billing clerk in the Information Services Department for Hendrick Health Services until she retired in 2002. She was a member of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal and a member of the Daughters of the King.
Dell was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Katherine Averitt; her first husband and father of her children, Henry Phil Collier and her second husband, Jesse Warren, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Collier.
She is survived by two sons, Phil Collier and his wife Lisa, of Allen, Texas, Calvin Collier and his wife Jodie, of Knoxville, Tennessee; one daughter, Connie Hilliard, of Abilene; one brother, Gene Raymond Averitt and his wife Marilou, of The Colony, Texas; eight grandchildren, Haley Hilliard, Ryan Collier, Torin Collier, Chris Collier, Caleigh Collier, Justin Thomas, Darian Thomas and Dava Thomas; two nephews, Gregg and Brad Averitt and one niece, Lisa Tatum.
