Ora Gertrude Vanderhider

Ora Gertrude Vanderhider, 97, of Abilene, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty, Texas; directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Gertrude was born January 17, 1914 in Bryan, Texas. She was one of twelve children in her family; only one brother, Pete Reed, survives her. She moved to Abilene from Liberty, Texas in 1994. Gertrude was a member of the First Baptist Church in Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Hubert Vanderhider; one son, James Alan Vanderhider; one grandson, Carl Jeffrey Vanderhider and 10 siblings. Gertrude is survived by one son, Carl Vanderhider and wife Cherrie of Abilene; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Vanderhider of Lake Jackson; one brother, Pete Reed, also of Lake Jackson; three grandchildren, Russell Ann Wilson, Alexandra Vanderhider and Zachery Vanderhider; three great-grandchildren, Cassia, Alizah and Heston Wilson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
