Omer Harvey "Hal" Kemp, 81, died Wednesday, December 1, in Abilene, Texas.
The son of Ola (Waldrip) and O. H. Kemp, Hal was born on December 17, 1928 in Sunset, Texas. He graduated from Lorenzo High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University. Hal was a Baptist.
Hal's career as a broadcaster began in radio in 1963 on stations in Missouri and Oklahoma. He was also a minister of music in several states including Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Since 1972, he had been a resident of Abilene. In April, 1972, he began working for KTXS-TV where he worked the majority of his television broadcasting career. Hal later worked for KTAB-TV for a few years. He also sang for countless funeral services.
Hal was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Faye Lemon Kemp, in 1992; infant daughter, Kathilee Kemp; parents; and sister, Geraldine Hood.
Survivors include four sons, Randy Kemp of Edmond, Oklahoma, Richard Kemp of Abilene, Roger Kemp and wife Cindy of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Kelly Kemp of Abilene; sister, Christine Conard of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Mandy Davenport, Matthew Kemp, Allison Eoff, Carson Kemp, and Dallas Kemp; two great-grandchildren, Lily Davenport and Austin Toth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
