Norma Lee Osborn Mayben, 82, died Monday, November 21, 2011, at her residence in Abilene, Texas.
Graveside services will at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, in Muleshoe Memorial Park in Muleshoe, Texas, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Norma Lee Mayben was born August 27, 1929, in Clovis, NM to Jesse M. Osborn and Grace May Osborn. The family moved from Friona to Muleshoe in 1931. Mrs. Mayben received her bachelor's degree from Texas Woman's College in Denton and taught at Muleshoe. She married G. W. "Bill" Mayben on January 27, 1951 in Muleshoe. They farmed at Bovina until he joined Amoco Oil, and they lived in a number of locations including London, before moving to Houston. Mrs. Mayben moved to Abilene in 1996.
She was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church, Houston, Texas; Alibates Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists; Panhandle Colony, Magna Charta Dames; and Daniel Wing Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century; and other local genealogical societies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, G.W. Mayben; her brother, Edward Marion Osborn; her daughter, Norma Sue Mayben; her son, George William Mayben; and five grandchildren- Cary Crofts Best, Josiah Best, Victoria Lee Luke, Meagan Bethel Luke, and G.W. Joseph Luke.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherri Allyson Mayben-Stockner and husband Robert Christian Stockner of Palmdale, California, and her sister, Mary Sue Osborn Coleman, Amarillo, Texas, niece, Susan Lee Coleman, Amarillo. Other survivors include six grandchildren- Darcy Jane Radcliffe and her husband, Justin of Abilene; Grace Mae Robinson and her husband, Michael of Warwick, RI; Mark Abram Best of Miami, FL; Abigail Browning Taylor of Seattle, WA; Hannah Elizabeth Best Denton and her husband, Anthony of Fredrick, MD; Sarah Golden Best of Seattle, WA, and two great grandchildren- Elaina Aubrey Robinson and Nathanael Avery Robinson of Warwick, RI.
