Nettie Inez Bean McDuff went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and entered into His presence hearing, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”. She was humble in spirit and lived her life selflessly serving her family and her community without any expectation of reward. She and her family, the Beans, were pioneer settlers of Jones County, and like all pioneers she developed a self-reliant attitude which allowed her to persevere through triumphs and hardships of farming and ranching in rural, Texas. Hers was a life well-lived bearing much fruit – an example to follow. Nettie passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in Abilene, Texas.
Nettie was born in Jones County on March 8, 1913 and was the youngest of six children born to Birdie Futrell Bean and W.F. (Fred) Bean. Her love for reading was promoted by her father who helped build the New Hope School from which Nettie graduated. She was well-known for her love of literature and the delicious food she prepared with so much love.
On April 27, 1935 she married Harrell McDuff and became his faithful partner for 51 years until his death on September 9, 1986. They had two daughters, Carolyn Jane Joines and husband John Joines of Georgetown, TX, and Janice Luebbehusen and husband Phil Luebbehusen. Nettie’s other survivors include her grandchildren, John H. Joines of Lewisville, Meredith Fisk and husband Darren Fisk of Lewisville, and Hillary Luebbehusen, M.D. of Dallas: her two great-grandchildren, Madison and Benjamin Fisk; and other family members including sisters-in-law, LoRease Bean and Patsy McDuff as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jesse Bean; four brothers, Earl, Raymond, Ted and Morris Bean; her husband, Harrell McDuff; and great-grandson, Cambron Edward Fisk.
Her family gives heartfelt thanks to Dr. Keith Robinson and his staff, Royal Estates, Abilene Home Health, Home Instead Senior Care, Hendrick Medical Center and her many caregivers, especially Nancy Hudson, Bridgette Grant, Gloria Stokes, Lisa Rice, Kari Walling and Sara D’eredita. The love and care that you have given Nettie over many years are very much appreciated.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery on FM 1636 East near Avoca, Texas.
