Nelda Park, 81, passed away in her home on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. Richard Payne officiating. Born February 4, 1929 in Gorman, Texas, Nelda was the daughter of the late Homer J. and Mittie Warford Nash. She married Elton Park on October 7, 1950 in Abilene. Nelda and Elton were celebrating their 60th year of marriage. Their love for each other is an inspiration to all who know them. They shared that love with their 3 children. Nelda was active in the Abilene Garden Club for over 35 years, holding several offices through the years including District Director. Nelda loved the theater and performed in ten plays at the Abilene Community Theater. A wonderful speaker, Nelda was often invited to speak at luncheons, club meetings and various other events. Her repertoire included over 40 talks on birds, talks on women in Texas history and 20 other interesting subjects. When her children were younger, Nelda taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Elmwood West United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Elton and their 3 children, Allen Park of Abilene, Melissa Ledbetter and her husband Frank of Abilene, Doug Park and his wife Beth of Fort Worth; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Meals On Wheels Plus, Inc., PO Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604, or the donor's favorite charity.
