Nathan James Laird

1989 — July 26, 2015

Nathan James Laird, 26, of Abilene passed away on July 26, 2015. A memorial service will be 2:00 pm Friday July 31, 2015 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene with Mike Patrick officiating. Family will receive visitors immediately after the memorial service. Nathan was born in Abilene TX to Peggy Price and Jimmy Laird on March 14, 1989. He went to school at Wylie, Anson, and graduated from Cooper High School. He worked as a welder, kitchen staff, and was employed at Walmart for the past 3 years. Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents Duard and Mary Reves of Lockney and Jane Laird of Abilene. Nathan is survived by his mother Peggy Price and husband Steven of Fort Worth; two stepbrothers (Joshua, Steven Price and wife Kayla); his father Jimmy Laird and wife Melissa; his sister and brother Riley and Ryan Laird of Abilene; grandparents Ira (Sonny) and Inge Laird of Abilene, Jack and Kathleen Brown of Ohio, and Ronald Price of Fort Worth; aunts and uncles Edith and John Cole, Willa Reves, Dell and Laura Laird, Lee'Anne and Bob Quinn, Brenda Carpenter, Sheryl and Andy Grubb, Mike and Lynette Brown, Tim and Dorothy Brown; cousins Elizabeth and Bryan Cole, Misti Garrison, Cody Lindsay, Rebecca and Matthew Laird. Nathan loved his high school German language class and often spoke and wrote in German. When recently asked about his bucket list, he said he wanted to visit Germany. He was a hard worker and a dedicated employee who enjoyed going to work every day. His coworkers described him as friendly, a real jokester, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. His presence will be greatly missed. Nathan taught himself to read at the age of four. He would sit and read the dictionary, and frequently, his mom would take him to the public library, to check out as many books as they could carry. His mom was often asked if she was a school teacher because of all the books. As a young child he loved to draw and he mastered the art of drawing tractors, airplanes and guns. He loved science, geography and his world globe. When he was 5 years old, he asked Santa for a map of California with the San Andreas Fault Line. Nathan suffered from Epilepsy since childhood, but still strived to have a normal adult life. He was stubborn natured at times and always wanted to be independent despite his disability. Nathan enjoyed guns and knives, hunting and going to his grandparent’s farm. He loved being outside, getting dirty and having fun. As a young boy, he would ride on the tractor with Grandpa every chance he got. As young boys, he and his cousin Bryan spent the night in a fort they built in the pasture at their grandparent's farm, slept on the ground and roughed it all night, despite his grandmother’s worry. Nathan was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in memory of Nathan, to the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas. www.eftx.org
