Nancy Joan House, 78, of Abilene Texas passed away on April 22, 2018 in her home. Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018 at Beltway Park Church, South Campus - Room 109 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, at Beltway Park Church, South Campus Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Randy Turner and Geoffrey Turner of Beltway Park Church officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Joan was born in LaFayette, GA to William Taft and Lucille Pettyjohn on October 21, 1939. She graduated from Greely High School, in Greely Colorado in 1958. She married Joseph David House on December 12, 1959 in Amarillo, TX. Joan was a regular volunteer at Hendrick Medical Center for many years. She and her husband David were also involved in The Compassionate Friends of Abilene, a non-profit organization for bereaved, grieving parents. They were also very active in their church, The Church of God of Prophecy in Abilene, where she held various positions, including pianist, organist, special singing, and secretary and treasurer. Joan loved her family and her plants and flowers. She was a faithful mall walker and enjoyed the company of many friends she met while staying physically active. Joan was preceded in death by her husband David, her daughter Trina, her parents and infant brother Billy and elder brother Jim. Joan is survived by her two sons, Michael and wife Ruth of Edwards, MS, and Gary and wife Vicki of Abilene, TX: two brothers, Jerry Pettyjohn and wife Denise of Fort Morgan, CO, and Tim Pettyjohn and wife Edwina of Post, TX: two sisters-in-law, Sarah Kay Pettyjohn of Morrison, CO and Lona Pettyjohn of Meridian, ID: five grandchildren, Jared and Nathan House of Vicksburg, MS, Sarah Turner and husband Geoffrey, Katie Gilgenbach and husband Kelly, and Julianne House all of Abilene: three great-granddaughters Berkley Grace Turner, Ellie Katherine Turner, and Parker Rose Gilgenbach all of Abilene, TX. Pallbearers will be Jared and Nathan House, Kelly Gilgenbach, Gary and Garret McKinney, and Jimmy Martinez. Memorials may be given to Abilene Fire Chaplain Fund, 250 Grape Street, Abilene, TX 79601. The family of Joan House wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the following Stations with the Abilene Fire Department: Fire Station No. 1 at 250 Grape St., Fire Station No. 2 at S. 27th and Oldham Lane, Fire Station No. 3 at S. 16th and Vine, and Fire Station No. 5 at ACU Station on E.N. 16th Street. A deep gratitude is also extended to Fire Chief Larry Bell and Chaplain Chris Hale of the Abilene Fire Department.
