Myrna Joyce Woods, age 83 of Abilene, Texas, passed away on September 25, 2015, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Plainview, Texas on February 6, 1932 to Jack and Mae Hendrix. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1949 with a love for music and musicians. In 1951, she married the love of her live, Bill Woods and together they marched to Anson, Seagraves, Levelland, and Abilene, Texas. Myrna worked for Seagraves ISD as secretary to the Superintendent and tax collector in Levelland for the CPA offices of Louise Hall and retired from Abilene ISD as secretary for the director of finance. She spent 15 summers as a dorm director for the Texas Tech band camp. After retirement, she and Bill got a great deal of enjoyment working for the Winter Park, Colorado Band Festival and traveling the country to attend Drum Corp International championships. Myrna was a talented pianist and enjoyed gardening. The most important thing in her world was taking care of her family.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, and cousin Billie Kadlachek. Survivors include her husband Bill of Abilene, sons Bruce and wife Phyllis of Brownfield and Brad of Memphis, Texas, grandsons Brian of Frisco, Brent of Lubbock and Brady of Garland. Granddaughter Brittny of Garland, great grandson Jackson Greenslade of Garland, cousins Filmore Hendrix of Austin and Ola Mae Clemons of Boulder, Colorado. She is further survived by her faithful canine companion, Scarlet. Memorial donations may be made to the Hardin Simmons Cowboy Band Foundation in care of Dr. Rob Tucker, HSU P.O. Box 16230, Abilene, Texas 79698 or the charity of your choice. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Logsdon Chapel on the campus of Hardin Simmons University directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. “The song is ended but the melody lingers on” by Irving Berlin.
