Mozelle Holloway Thomas died, March 7, 2009 in a Fort Worth hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 in the Potosi Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Wylie Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Fuller and Dr. Bob Cullen officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, in Abilene.
Born on August 26, 1920 in Dickens Co., Texas near Spur, Mozelle was the daughter of William A. Holloway and Bera Mae Shockley Holloway. Mozelle married Hayden H. Thomas on June 16, 1942 in Abilene and moved to Potosi in 1968. She retired in 1986 after serving 25 years in the Taylor County Treasurer's Office, having served four terms as County Treasurer. A member of Wylie Baptist Church, she loved mission work and VBS. Professional associations and volunteer groups included Texas Retired Treasurer's Association, Texas Extension Education Association, RSVP, Pep Club and Potosi Quilting Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayden, in 1991, her parents, brothers Bryant, Doyle, Calvin and Glenn Holloway, and sister Francis Veazey.
Survivors include her son, Russell Thomas and wife Connie of Owens; daughter, Marilyn Swilling and husband Scott of Potosi; two brothers, Max and Neal Holloway of Sunset; three sisters, Lois Lusko of Abilene, Jean Peters of North Ft. Myers, Florida, and Jane Colburn of Quitman; four grandchildren, Travis Thomas and wife Kim of Pioneer, Tami Hull and husband Ted of Early, Trent Thomas and wife Brittney of Austin, and Rain Davis and husband Nick of Potosi; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy Swilling of Greenwood and Kelly Swilling of Potosi; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Hull, Jurnee, Tripp and Ketch Miles Thomas, Sky and Shada Davis, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved her.
