Monnell Mildred Thompson Taylor (96) passed away in Conroe, Texas on May 30, 2014 with her daughter at her side. The last of seven children of U.D. and Ida Thompson, Monnell was born on December 7, 1917 near Stamford, Texas. She was married on July 17, 1937 in Plainview, Texas, to R. O. Bill Taylor of Anson, Texas. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before the love of her life left to wait for her in Heaven. She is survived by three children: Sharon Taylor Self, Ralph Steven Taylor and Barbara Taylor, and Phillip Warren Taylor and Frances Taylor; eight grandchildren: Jaynie Self Hutchinson and Rick Hutchinson, Karla Self Butler and Patrick Butler, Flint Taylor Self and Michelle Self, Stephanie Taylor, Lorrie Taylor Peters and Keith Peters, Terrie Taylor Weber and John Weber, Melissa Taylor Slovacek and Jonathan Slovacek, and Angie Taylor Perez and Sergio Perez, 15 great-grandchildren: LeighAnna Hutchinson, Meganne Butler, Joshua Butler, Morgan Butler, Dori Anne Butler, Chance Beam, Jayden Self, Lisa Peters, Leslie Peters, Lindsey Peters, Maddie McDaniel, Jaid Weber, Elena Slovacek, Paul Cantu and Andrew Cantu; great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Cantu; sister-in-law, Ava Jewel Bradley and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, R. O. Bill Taylor of Abilene, Texas; her son-in-law, Ronnie J. Self of Conroe, Texas; her parents, U. D. and Ida Thompson of Stamford, Texas; her father and mother in law, Henry and Mary Taylor of Anson, Texas; 6 brothers and sisters and 14 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Monnell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a lifelong housewife, well known for her chocolate and pecan pies. Everyone was drawn to her because of her delightful giggle, beautiful smile, and sweet disposition. She was affectionately called “Mymee” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The love for her family made all feel cherished, important and loved. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with interment immediately following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rick Hutchinson, Flint Self, Ron Harden, Leland Harden, Charles Lee Thompson, Steve Lane, Matthew Lane, and James Harden. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Bradley, Pat Butler, Josh Butler, and Charles Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Monnell’s name to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance, 8323 Southwest Freeway, # 435, Houston, TX 77074.
