Mona Margaret Sherrod, beloved mom and Granny, was called home on May 9, 2021.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Woodard, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Margaret was born on March 1, 1929, to James Everett Wrenn and Annie Mable Verner Wrenn. She was their only child.
She graduated from Abilene High School in 1947. During her high school years, her first job was selling tickets at the Paramount. She loved this job and this theatre. Over the years, she worked in various accounting and personnel positions. Some of the most memorable for her where at WTU, McWood Corp, Loadcraft, First National Bank of Brady, Fisher-Webb, and Gooch Packaging. She spent numerous years working at Sears Methodist Center and eventually retired from there.
She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years. She enjoyed monthly meetings, dinners, and community activities with her sorority sisters.
Margaret’s most favorite titles were “Mom” and “Granny.” She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family get-togethers and would play dominos as long as the grandkids had a game going. She also loved to sit and listen to and watch her great granddaughters.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Sherrod; son, Terry Sherrod; her parents Everett and Mabel Wrenn; son-in-law Gary Latham.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Latham of Abilene; Grandsons, Michael (Jennifer) Gilmore of Santa Fe, NM; Trey Gilmore of Brock, TX. Great granddaughters Mena & Ciaran Gilmore of Santa Fe, NM; Kynlee & Kolyer Gilmore of Brock, TX.
Pallbearers will be Michael Gilmore, Trey Gilmore, Michael Cain, Bruce Sherrod, Case Jackson, Chad McConnell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601, or the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
