Mona “Jean” Baker, 87, of Abilene Texas went to meet her Savior on December 31st, 2022. She passed peacefully in the care of her daughter and the caring staff at Hendricks Hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday January 4th at Hamil Family Funeral Home with Gloria Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene Municipal Cedar Hill Cemetery, Abilene Texas. Services are under the direction of Hamil Family Funeral Home 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Mona Jean was born February 22, 1935, at home in Jones County, Texas to H.B. Vestal and Lillie Lou Moore Vestal. At the age of five Mona Jean’s mother married Frank Hagar who Mona Jean acknowledged as her “Daddy”.

Mona Jean attended Abilene High School, and immediately following found her calling in providing the greatest of service to the Abilene community, through being everyone’s favorite butcher at nearly every grocery store in Abilene Texas. She often had a line of customers waiting for her special gift to give them exactly what they wanted. She was often sought by the competing stores for her following of customers.

Mona Jean was preceded in death by her grandparents Harmena and Marvin Moore; parents Lillie and Frank Hagar; grandson Christopher Noice; brother Donnie Hagar; grandson Clint Connelly; son in law Guy Bob Shults and her biological father H.B. Vestal.

Mona Jean is survived by her daughter Debbie Shults, son Randy Baker, daughter Michelle Ryan, her grandchildren Jennifer Connelly Behringer and husband Mike, Shaun Shults and wife Molly, Carly Baker, Nicholas Ryan, and Michael Theriault; great grandchildren Shaunna Kay Simpson and husband Austin, Emma Connelly and significant other Corbin, Regan Shults, Cooper Shults, Guyer Connelly, her 5th Generation great great grandchildren Brixton Simpson and Maisyn Kay Whitley; her brothers, Ronnie Hagar and wife Betty, Billy Hagar and wife Sharon, Bennie Vestal and wife Tammy; her sisters, Deanna Slater and husband Allan, and Gloria Richardson.

Pallbearers will be Shaun Shults, Cooper Shults, Richard Richardson, Eddie Rains, Jerry Rains, and Michael Theriault. Honorary Pallbearers Robert Stewart, Kirk Richardson, Lee Rains, Austin Simpson, and Mike Behringer.

The Family would like to give special thanks to the nurses of Hendricks Hospice Care who so lovingly cared for Mona Jean and her family in her final days.

The Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Hendricks Hospice Care at 1651 Pine Street Abilene, Texas 79601.
